What happened?
When a shopper attempts to create a Splitit installment plan, Splitit may place an authorization hold on the credit card to verify that enough available credit exists for the purchase.
If the installment plan is not successfully created, the authorization hold is no longer needed and is automatically released by Splitit.
Is this a charge?
No.
An authorization hold is not a charge and no installment plan was created.
The hold may temporarily reduce the available credit on the card until the card issuer removes it.
When will the hold disappear?
The timing is controlled by the card issuer and card network, not Splitit.
Authorization holds for a plan that was not created are typically released within a few business days.
What should the shopper do?
If the available credit has not returned after several days:
- Contact the card issuer or bank.
- Confirm that the transaction was an authorization hold from a failed installment-plan attempt.
- Ask their bank when the authorization will be released.
Can Discover, Visa, Mastercard, or Amex be used?
Eligible credit cards can generally be used with Splitit if:
- The merchant supports that card type.
- The card has enough available credit for the full purchase amount.
- The card issuer approves the authorization request.
